World Humanitarian Day is a day dedicated to recognizing the efforts of humanitarian workers and those who lost their lives in the cause of their duty.

In the spirit of partnership, the UNOCHA and Partners including HORHIN, after a humanitarian coordination forum meeting celebrated the World Humanitarian Day in Damaturu. These activities include;
It involved Live radio program and Interviews with women humanitarians in Yobe State, Press Conference by the Governor, Field Stories of Women Humanitarians in Yobe and Media engagement, Joint Interactive session between partners and government (Symposium) in Government House Banquet Hall with a Photo exhibition, field experiences by women humanitarians, interaction with the government, and sharing of challenges versus achievements, and finally an awareness Walk (Road Walk).
Humanitarian actors used the avenue to seek support, protection, structures and policies for the rights of women in the crises areas. The campaign themed ‘Women Humanitarian’ supports the recognition that women deserve in the strengthening of global humanitarian response as well as in protection efforts under the international law. It also commemorated to remember women who were killed, kidnapped or molested in the course of their duty.
Many organisations working in Damaturu were represented and they condemned the kidnaps and killings of humanitarian workers in the Northeast by the Boko Haram insurgents.
In his speech, the Representative of United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Yobe State, Mr. Daniel Buba Soro, thanked the government for creating a conducive environment for the operation of humanitarian agencies.
The Executive Secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje who also spoke at the event, appreciated the peaceful relationship enjoyed by government and humanitarian agencies in Yobe State. These relationships he added has yielded positive results. He went further to seek more intervention as the recent flood disaster which affected about 10 local government councils have left over 2000 people displaced.
HORHIN while acting on immediate relief services that meets the urgent needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable groups in host communities (FIKA and Damaturu) vows to continue working with relevant agencies and SEMA to achieve their project goal.
